Ruched leggings xx

Matilda loves a pair of leggings, and I love to jazz things up a bit.

I bought a cute little polka dot pair from a super market, and ruched them up in a matter of moments.

I wanted to go further, and give them bows or buttons, but sadly Matilda wasn’t interested.

I can see her having her own style, is really gonna start to bug me soon.  She won’t let me do half the crazy things I want, to her clothes.  Oh well, Ava still has no choice!

Straight leggings.  Already with mud on.  They where only in the house for an hour.

I measured 4″ up from the bottom of the leggings, and put pin markers in.

I think another 1″ or 2″,  would be really nice as well.

I decided just to put the ruching on the outside, of the leggings this time.  But it’s just the same process, doing the inside as well.

The leggings where turned inside out, when I took this picture.  But they shouldn’t be.

All sewing and marking should be done on the right side.

Thread your bobbin with elastic thread.  Which you can get from most sewing shops.  You will need to wind it on by hand.  Not to tight, not to loose, somewhere in the middle.  Pop your bobbin in the machine.

Thread up your machine as normal, and stitch an elastic line up to your marker.  Making sure to back stitch, at the beginning and end of your line.

It’s a little bit fidley to maneuver the little leg of the fabric, but take it slowly and it will work fine.

Stitch another line parallel to your first line.

Your leggings will already be a little bit ruched but, give them a spritz with water and an iron to get them really ruching.

And there you have a ruched pair of leggings.  You could also ruche your own leggings.

Matilda is beautifully demonstrating her ballet, pointy toes.

Still no head shots though!

  1. I love these. When I tell people what you and I are up to they ask if it’s going to be seasonal but I keep saying dresses don’t have to be, you just layer them with leggings and jumpers. we can even print on them.

  2. Me again Matilda kinda reminds me of a certain little girl and a certain pair of yellow shoes, she grew with a style of her own and would have/ could be, a great designer, so all you new followers ”watch this space”
